InstaFebruary '16

Why hello there!

Oh my, how is it already the end of February?! I loved this month so much, I think it's always my favourite month because so many good things happen!

This month I have:
  • Turned 20 (scary but awesome, I can practice 'proper' adulting)
  • Been to the zoo
  • Become a full-time employee at work, no longer an apprentice
  • Had a day trip to Windsor
  • Seen pretty much all of my besties at some point this month
  • Baked brownies
  • Celebrated four years with the boyf
  • Ate some delicious food
I'd say, that's a pretty fun filled February. March, I have high expectations for you!

Thanks for popping by, come back soon, and remember to follow me on Instagram to see all my latest snaps!

All About The Lips, by Nyx

Hello, my lovelies!

I am super excited about this post. Do you ever have that feeling where you've taken some photos for your blog and you're like 'Yes. My photos are on point'. I'm feeling like that and I am in love with these products!

Eeep, let me tell you more!

So, if you've visited the Boots website anytime in the last few months, you're likely to have seen that they now stock Nyx. Now, before recently I'd never owned a Nyx product before but had seen so much hype about their products on Instagram. This is when my love affair with Nyx began, I suppose. Onto my birthday wishlist they went, and thanks to a couple of my friends I finally had my hands on some!

The products I've got are:
  • NYX Butter Lip Balm in shade Biscotti
  • NYX High voltage lipstick in the shade Flutter Kisses
  • NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in shade Soft Spoken

Now. I have to say so far I am super happy with these! I haven't been able to use them much yet because of work, but eep they're so nice!

At this time of year, you can never be without lip balm. I like the Butter Lip Balm because it's got a slight tint to it and really works. It doesn't feel too sticky or anything, and you forget it's there. It's a great for a subtle bit of colour day to day. I've worn this the most so far.

Next on my list, the high voltage lipstick. This is a really good slightly darker than nude colour for me. It's so easy to apply because it's quite small, and feels really moisturizing. That's something I'd point put about all of these products, they don't feel drying at all. It seems to last reasonably well, but I did eat a burrito so it took a bit of a battering. However, it did fade well. You know sometimes if a lipstick rubs off you get that really horrible edge round your lips like you've applied a lip liner that's way too dark and nothing else? This doesn't do that. It's a nice even fade.

Last, but definitely not least, the Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick. This is a lovely matte shade, I haven't really had a colour like this before and it's so nice! Again, it doesn't feel drying or anything, very moisturizing I think for this kind of product. It comes with a doe foot applicator and it's pretty easy to apply, and, if you've got a steady hand I'd say you can definitely get away without wearing a lip liner or anything. I find it's pretty pigmented, and can get away with one coat. It doesn't come out patchy or anything but I suppose if you wanted extra staying power you could apply another layer. But purely colour wise one coat is just fine. As for how long it lasts, I got through a hot chocolate and brownie plus a couple hours of chit chat before I felt I needed to top this up. Not bad I say, not bad.

Considering I'd never tried any products by Nyx before, I am very impressed. They're so reasonably priced and the colour choices in these lip products are great! I think I'll definitely be growing my collection. I'd quite like to try out some of their other products too, maybe eyes next?

Any of my close friends reading this, if you're ever wondering what to get me as a present, now you know!

I'm super excited to continue wearing these and I'll be sure to report back if I try any other Nyx products!

How I Organise My Blog Posts

I don't know about you, but it's taken me quite a while to get into a proper routine of blogging. Over the last couple of years, I've gone through really intense periods of blogging, and then I'll have like a couple of months, or sometimes even longer, where I just don't blog!

I think... let's hope so anyway, I've found a way to keep up a regular blog routine without making me feel overwhelmed, and a way that allows me to gradually incorporate new ideas into my posts.

I thought I'd tell you what I do.

So, back in January, when I decided, let's do this, I really wanted to blog 'properly'. I didn't want to be scrambling around frantically thinking up blog post ideas the day before I wanted to publish them, I wanted blogging to be chill. I wanted to see my post ideas, have a plan, and be able to get on with writing posts a bit in advance so that there was no, "Oh my god a blog post is due and I haven't written it". Obviously, there are no deadlines for me. If I don't post, the only person I have to answer to is myself. But I like the structure. If I can manage to blog three times a week, I feel like I can pat myself on the back and say well done, you've done something productive with your time.

So, first things first, I went out and got myself a plain notebook from Muji (there stationary is to die for) and some new pretty coloured pens. If there's one thing that's going to motivate me to be organised, it's pretty coloured pens.

In my notebook, I've come up with a four-week plan. I draw this up every four weeks, (I leave a double page between each one for any ideas that some to mind, extra to-do lists, and general doodling). I then make notes for what blog posts I would like to write, ideally I try and write a week in advance, this doesn't always happen, but it helps me figure out what's coming up post wise. I write down what images I need to create, which blog posts are going live, and then any other notes, like scheduling tweets, replying and reading comments, reading other blogs.

So far, I am loving structuring my ideas like this. I like planning out the next four weeks because you can see how different posts can lead up to one another. You can also make sure there's enough variety, and, it means you've got some time to think about posts before it comes to actually writing them.

I don't get any more specific than the week, for example, I don't say, "On Monday night I will write post x, Tuesday post y, and Wednesday post z" because even if it's a week in advance, that's too much pressure. I just aim to write them at some point, around whatever is happening in my life that week. I think by not being too specific about when to get things done, you can't really get annoyed at yourself if you don't manage to write a post on a specific day.

I take a batch of photos every Saturday, and honestly, unless I had this plan, I don't think I'd be able to, because I wouldn't know what's going on where, what I should be taking photos of, and what my highest priority is. If you only have a limited time to take photos and you need to do a big batch, I would definitely suggest planning the next few weeks of content.

I think this pretty much covers how I organise my posts. Whenever I have a new idea, I jot it down, and then the next time I come to drawing up a four-week plan, I review last month's posts, see what went well, what I enjoyed, and see how I can fit my new posts in. It makes it fun! Plus, I like to use a different coloured pen for each week to jazz the whole process up a bit, and make my notebook extra snazzy. That's why I bought stickers too! This is the first time I've had a dedicated notebook for blogging, and macaroni cheese it has made all of the difference! Try it! I used to just use Evernote, which I still enjoy, but I tend to ignore notes the older they get. When you actually write it down, it's there, it's in front of you, and you can't ignore it.

I would love to hear about how you like to organise your blog posts, are you super organised, or are you Tell me! I'm curious :)

Before I'm 20 - Revisited

Why hello there!

If you follow me on social media or have read my blog in the last few days, you may have noticed that I've just had my birthday! Woohoo! I've turned 20. Not so great. I would like to continue being a teenager thank you very much. If only. Anyway, last year I made a list of things I would like to achieve by the time I turned 20, so I thought today I review my list and see what I got up to!

The List:
  1. Learn to drive
  2. Write a letter to myself
  3. Complete the couch to 5k challenge
  4. Get a full-time job
  5. Get second lobe piercings
  6. Document my 19th year of life as much as possible. Last year of being a teenager and all that!
  7. Go on holiday with friends
  8. Keep a diary
  9. Weekend away with the boyfriend
  10. Start saving money
  11. Clear out my wardrobe - we're talking deep clean.
  12. Do something for charity
  13. Keep an occasional dream diary
  14. Read some books. Seriously just start reading again.
Quite a lot of things there aren't there? Reading through them, a few stand out immediately. Firstly, learning to drive. Definitely one of my biggest achievements last year. I first got behind the wheel the last weekend in February 2015. I was terrified of just messing up, crashing my instructors car, or just being a generally rubbish driver. I had a lesson a week roughly until September, then booked my first test, failed, but then passed with flying colours at the beginning of November. Remember guys, if you're taking your test, don't forget to indicate on the very last roundabout!

I was so happy and have been driving ever since. I actually commute to work everyday, and still live at home, so there's no reason for me to own my own car yet, so I'm a named driver on my Mum's car. I love it, I was pretty nervous for the first month I would say, it was so daunting being let loose on the roads, by myself! But I've relaxed into it now and love it!

Last February was also when I managed to get a full-time job! I started my apprenticeship at a web design agency, and have just finished it! It's been such a great experience, I'm going to write up a proper post soon, but to keep you going if you're interested, read my post about why I chose an apprenticeship instead of attending university.

These two things have definitely been my two biggest achievements of last year, and I think I can pat my 19-year-old self on the back and say 'Well done!'.

As for some of the smaller things on this list, like, writing a letter to myself... nope, keep a diary... nope, do something for charity... nope. I think in some ways, this blog has acted like a letter to myself, as I can look back at previous posts and literally be teleported back in time. As for a diary, I just don't allow myself enough time. I think I document things best by taking my camera everywhere and getting as many photos as possible. (Tick that one off the list!)

I have managed to start reading more. Anyone else have the app Goodreads? It's weird, in the last year I'd say I've read about 6 books. Not as many as I would like by far, by an improvement on the year before. I go through a month of being a bookworm, and then a month of not being interested. I was thinking about why this is, and, I reckon that once I complete a book I've really enjoyed, I want to savour it for a bit, I don't want to read anything else because I'm still thinking about the last one. Hence the longs gaps between each book. Definitely going to try reading more this year, though.

I never did complete the couch to 5k challenge. This was a real downer, but it seems either my running form is terrible (likely) or I'm just not cut out for it. I tried about three times last year, and every time, about three weeks in I would get awful shin splits. The pain! So, I joined myself up to the local gym and went a lot in the summer, managed to avoid it during the autumn, but have been going a minimum of twice a week since the start of January. That and my Fitbit (have you read why I love it?) has helped me get fitter and exercise without the pain of shin splints.

As for second lobe piercings? Meh. I like how they look, but I've been having so much bother with my helix piercing, I've kind of been put off. That and I just don't seem to wear earrings that much. I'd definitely still like it done at some point, but I'm in no rush.

Let's round it up now shall we? As for giving my wardrobes a deep clean, I think I have, or at least I did, but then I bought more clothes. This will be an ongoing battle. Holidays, on the other hand, last year the boyf and I didn't actually go anywhere! Never mind, we weren't really organised about it enough, however, we did go on lots of day trips last year, which I really enjoy. This year, however, we're off to France for a week and have a few long weekends in the works. Watch this space! I did, however, pop to Mallorca for a week with my best friend Niamh. It was lovely! We went in early September, had great weather, stayed in a lovely resort, chilled (boy oh boy was that good) and got more selfies than we know what to do with!

This year, I'm going to start making a really big effort to save money, so that Jim and I (the boyf) can start thinking about really grown up things, like moving out! That is, once we've paid for the holiday! Apart from that, I'm not going to set such specific goals, because I really don't what this year will be like. I'm going to go with the flow and make sure I have as much fun as possible!

If you've made it this far, thank you for reading. Have a cookie and grab a cuppa as a reward.

Celebrating Two Decades

Hello my lovelies,

Today it is... My birthday! I have turned the grand old age of 20. Wow, no longer a teenager, and I suppose you could now call me a proper grown up, (who wants to be one of those?).

It's mad! I remember turning 14 pretty vividly, and could never, ever imagine even being 16, let alone TWENTY!

At the zoo on safari!
I have had such a lovely weekend in the build-up to today. On Friday, I got to celebrate the day with all my work colleagues (I've booked a day off, hence not celebrating today) I then dragged all my friends to the zoo on Saturday. It was super cold but a lovely day and I think everyone enjoyed it. I then spent the evening eating delicious food and spending time with my bestest friends whilst laughing more than I have done in such a long time. I've got serious abs from all that laughing! (If only... :p)

Blowing the candles out on Saturday evening with my friends
Now I get to spend today with my boyfriend, we're going to do a bit of shopping and have hopefully the best lunch ever! I get to choose but I still can't decide, I expect it will be on Instagram later hehe.

The amazing cake my mum made for me
To sum it up, turning twenty is absolutely terrifying. However, I'm in such a good place surrounded by all my favourite people, it's gonna be OKAY!

Getting old ay... bring on the next decade!

Review: Rimmel Lasting Finish Primer

Hello lovelies,

Today I wanted to share my thoughts with you on this primer. I've not really bothered with primers properly before recently, and this is the best I've used to far.

Let me tell you why:

I find that this actually does what it says on the tin. When I used this primer, I notice that my makeup does last longer, it might not be perfect and pristine by the end of the day (primer claims to be 'skin perfecting' for up to eight hours), but it's still on my face and requires less of a touch-up than before (basically redoing everything). I'm the kind of person who touches my face all the time without even realising, thus making my makeup just disappear, so anything that helps it last long is good by me!

I also enjoy the consistency of the primer. I apply it after moisturiser and before any foundation or any other makeup. I use roughly a pea sized blob (technical term right there) to start with, and I focus on the centre of my face and work outwards, adding more as necessary. It doesn't feel too heavy, and it doesn't feel cakey as if it's taking ages to sink in. I reckon I wait less than a minute before cracking on with my makeup. You can actually apply this primer alone, under or over makeup, so if you wanted to add some during the day, you could!

What I love is that it makes actually applying makeup much easier. I didn't really realise before I bothered with primers, but now my makeup, which is basically all powders, glide onto the skin. They just seem to sit better and require less effort to make everything look nice. Blending out contour for example just feels easier. I think it's due to the lightweight formula that it feels so comfortable. You definitely can't feel it sitting on the surface like some moisturisers for example.

I hope you've enjoyed hearing about my experience with this primer. I'd be really interested to find out what primer you use if you use one at all. I've tried a small sample of a silicon based one by Seventeen I think, ages ago (now been discontinued) and I really liked that. Please let me know your recommendations!

Thanks for stopping by,

Insta January '16

Hasn't January rushed past! Christmas now feels like absolutely ages ago, and February is well and truly here. That means I'm nearly 20. Help.

I've been keeping myself pretty busy this month, my boyfriend and I have made a real effort to get to the gym three times a week, and so far, it's been going well. I've also really made an effort to eat much more healthily, and ensure I'm drinking enough water. And you know what? I feel so much better. I've got much more energy and get up and go, I'm just more motivated! Anyway, take a look at some of my latest Instagram pictures this month :)

What's going on in these snapshots I here you ask? Well, much fun was had early on in the month with my amazing cousin Phoebe. She's my fave, and so lovely, and is only 12 but is taller than me! Not okay with that, at all. As well as that, this month I've had a rearrange of my makeup storage and dyed my hair red. I am in love with it oh my god. You can also see some evidence of my healthy eating kicking in, graze snacks, HELLO! I'm thinking of doing mini-reviews every time I try a new one, what do you think? If you want to read how I found the chocolate pretzels (best thing ever tbh) click here. I've also bought myself a new cup for work to make sure I'm getting all that water in my system.

Seriously, if you want to start drinking water more without noticing, buy a cup with a straw. Your life will change.

Hope you've enjoyed this post, let me know how your January has been!
